Welsh homelessness charity, Llamau, have received a donation of £1,000 from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Swansea.
Daring to imagine a world without homelessness, Llamau, supports young people, women and children who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Since first established more than 30 years ago, Llamau has supported over 67,000 people to escape homelessness and domestic abuse. The charity run services across Wales, supporting young care leavers, people involved with the criminal justice system and women who’ve experienced domestic abuse.
The range of services provided by Llamau aims to prevent homelessness from ever happening but when it does, Llamau provide crisis support through safe and secure accommodations and refuges, mental health support and education and employment opportunities.
Speaking on the donation, Chris Law, General Manager at Amazon in Swansea, said:
“Llamau recognises that homelessness is far more complex than a lack of permanent shelter. As well as accommodation, the charity also offers a range of emotional and educational support services. I am pleased we can support Llamau’s work.”
Director of Fundraising and Communications, Jenna Lewis, said:
“We’re very grateful to Chris and the Amazon team in Swansea for this kind donation. This year has been one of the most difficult years to date for Llamau and the people we support so donations like this are so important. We’ll be able to use the money to continue supporting young people, women and children to live in safety and ultimately look to leave homelessness behind them.”
The donation was made as part of the “Amazon in the Community” programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.
Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering over 2 million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
