Minister for Economy, Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates MS, will open a debate about the importance of improving skills in the workplace on January 27.
Over 100 businesses have signed up for the ‘Investing in your People’ webinar organised by Chambers Wales, the leading business organisation which brings together the best industry expertise and resources from across Wales to support Welsh businesses in every sector.
The Minister will be joined by Louise Casella, Director of the Open University in Wales, who will chair the interactive session which aims to raise awareness of the need for improving skillsets across Wales and highlight routes to access the valuable expertise that is available through Welsh universities and colleges.
An expert panel consisting of people-focused businesses and education leaders will also discuss the barriers and challenges to upskilling, the impact of a changing employment landscape and how companies can access resources, funding and expertise.
The panel will include Lorenzo Angelucci, CEO of Transcend Packaging; Louise Bright, Director of Research and Business Engagement at University of South Wales; Professor Brian Morgan, Director of the Creative Leadership and Enterprise Centre at the Cardiff School of Management and Richard Selby, Director and Co-Founder of Pro Steel Engineering.
Panellist Professor Brian Morgan commented: “Leadership and management skills are critical areas that affect the operational efficiency of the whole business. Universities can be a valuable resource for introducing innovative activity and new processes into a business that will help raise productivity. In addition, they can provide access to cutting edge research in all sectors.”
Richard Selby, Director and Co-Founder of Pro Steel Engineering, said: “Many workers are being faced with a broader scope in their jobs and advances in technology dictate a need to keep up to date with the latest developments. It is vital for businesses to be innovative and forward thinking when considering the skills of their workforce.”
Heather Anstey-Myers, Chief Executive of Chambers Wales, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Minister Ken Skates, Louise Casella and our expert panel to discuss a critical issue for all businesses. We are delighted that so many people have signed up to this event already to hear and join in with the debate.”
