Today we join others by marking Holocaust Memorial Day. January 27 marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
We will be joining the national #LightTheDarkness memorial by illuminating County Hall in purple this evening, and encouraging you to light a candle and safely place it in your window at 8pm – to remember and to stand against prejudice.
You may wish to join a local memorial event hosted by The Olive Trust, based in Kidwelly, which takes place at 10am this morning. Visit the trustās Facebook page to join, or for more information.
We are also very grateful to Holocaust survivor Eva Clarke BEM who once again is taking the time to speak with staff in our education department to develop greater understanding and help us work with children through our schools to realise the dangers of hatred and bigotry, racism and prejudice.
As a council we have adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism.
