Horizon Nuclear Power has decided to withdraw its application to develop a nuclear power plant at the Wylfa Newydd site on Anglesey, a proposed £20-billion project that would have led to the creation of around 850 jobs.
Janet Finch-Saunders MS – the Shadow Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs – called the decision “a setback”, adding:
“As Conservatives, we are committed to a cleaner, greener future for Wales, the UK, and the rest of the world, and energy production means that are renewable, efficient, and meet the changing needs of a changing nation.
“While this news is disappointing, it’s a setback, not the end of the development of the Wylfa Newydd site. It remains a prime location for a new nuclear project, and the UK government has given its reassurance that it’s committed to exploring future opportunities for Wylfa.”
