South Wales Police officers attended a site in the Briton Ferry area yesterday as part of an ongoing investigation in to dog thefts.
During a search of the site and the nearby area dogs believed to be stolen were located and seized.
Officers also discovered a number of cannabis plantations at the same location.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and animal cruelty and has been released under investigation.
Superintendent Cath Larkman said: “I want the public to be reassured that we take dog thefts very seriously and fully understand the deeply distressing impact of these crimes on the individual dogs and their families.
“Our investigations are continuing jointly with colleagues from Heddlu Dyfed Powys Police.
”Chief Inspector Nia Hughes, who was leading yesterday’s operation, added: “Officers were faced with incredibly challenging circumstances and I am appreciative of the professionalism and commitment that they demonstrated.”We are reminding dog owners to be vigilant and there are also some steps dog owners can take to keep your pets safe:
Avoid leaving dogs in the garden or outside kennels if you are not at home
If you keep dogs outside please consider extra lighting and CCTV to deter thieves If your dog is having puppies please be extra vigilant
Make sure you dogs microchip information is up to date
Keep a current photograph of your dog and note any distinguishing marks
If you see anything suspicious please call 101 or in an emergency 999
