This year’s St David’s Day celebration from Carmarthenshire Theatres is moving online with a virtual concert, filmed at Llanelli’s state- of-the-art Ffwrnes Theatre, due to be streamed to audiences at home on Monday, March 1st.
The bilingual concert will showcase a wealth of Welsh talent, including performances from the Official Harpist to HRH The Prince of Wales, Alys Huws, also a rising star in the world of musical theatre, singer Samuel Wyn-Morris, who’s most recently been performing in the West End production of Les Misérables. Carmarthenshire based actor, Julian Lewis Jones, who has appeared in Hollywood film Invictus and is a regular face in the Sky TV series, Stella, will be the guest reader. The concert will also feature performances from young singers, Osian Clarke and Lauren Fisher, both members of the Loud Applause Rising Stars programme. Compére for the evening will be the renowned local broadcaster and writer, Alun Gibbard.
This year’s concert will be the eighth year that Carmarthenshire Theatres have partnered with Loud Applause Productions to produce the theatres’ St David’s Day celebrations. The annual event attracts audiences from across Carmarthenshire, and even outside the county, and is always a sold-out event. Due to the ongoing pandemic, adaptions have had to be made to the usual format, with the concert being streamed online for the first time.
In addition to making the concert available to audiences online, all care homes in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire will receive a free link to the concert for their residents and staff to enjoy together. This is the second time Carmarthenshire Theatres has arranged for care homes in the two counties to access a digital show, with every care home receiving a free copy of a Christmas concert, ‘The West End at Christmas’ over the last festive period.
Tickets for this year’s virtual St David’s concert are on sale now on the Carmarthenshire Theatre’s www.theatrausirgar.co.uk website. Those purchasing a ticket will receive a direct link to watch the show which will be streamed on the theatre’s website on Monday, March 1st, 7pm. The concert will be available to view via the link for three weeks following the release. Tickets are priced at £5 per household with the option to add a donation to support future online productions.
