Work continues during lockdown to improve city’s cultural venues

It is the Client who must satisfy himself / herself that all necessary rights, model releases or consents which may be required for reproduction of people, places or items depicted within any picture are obtained. It is acknowledged that the Supplier gives no warranty or undertaking that any such rights, releases or consents are or will be obtained whether in relation to the use of names, people, trade marks, registered or copyright designs or works of art depicted in any picture. In the event that the picture is used or reproduced by or with the authority of the Client then the Client shall indemnify the Supplier against any loss, damage, proceedings or costs where such rights, releases or consents have not

Work will be starting shortly to improve the lighting at Swansea’s Grand Theatre making it greener and more energy efficient for when it is safe for performances to resume.

New LED fittings will replace old bulbs in the front of house area and backstage cutting energy use by up to 50 per cent.

It is part of a continued investment by Swansea Council in the popular venue, part of which is currently being used as a Covid testing centre.

Theatre staff are working in partnership with the Race Council Cymru on creating a cultural and digital hub in the Arts Wing to build a more diverse audience.

This pioneering project, in conjunction with investment in the bars and restaurant by the Theatre’s catering partner, Gower Brewery, and vibrant new website and branding, will ensure that the theatre continues to be at the heart of Swansea’s culture.

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration & Tourism, said: “Swansea Grand Theatre has lit up the lives of thousands of Swansea’s citizens over many years, and now energy saving at the building is in the spotlight.

“The theatre’s lighting project is a key part of the council’s sustainability strategy, which aims to do what we do better, but, most importantly, to do things differently to ensure a safe, sustainable and successful Swansea for current and future generations.”

Theatre staff are working on the upgrade with Ameresco Inc, an international company specialising in energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions.

Another of the city’s iconic buildings, The Brangwyn Hall, has also seen investment during lockdown.

The Hall’s beautiful block wooden floor is now being re-sealed and returned to its former glory by a team of staff including the Brangwyn technicians and the Council’s Events Team.

The floor in The George Hall has also had the same treatment and is awaiting the final seal.

Significant maintenance has also been undertaken whilst the Brangwyn has been closed, including servicing the sound system and all of the lighting.
