2 March, 2021: Self-contained accommodation is set to reopen in Wales from Saturday 27 March, following the Welsh government’s announcement today. Reopening in the first instance will be restricted to one household only, and for those travelling from within Wales itself.

While cottages and rentals are reporting high booking levels, Pitchup.com has pulled together its top picks for a top-notch glamping stay with all the amenities, and availability for an early getaway.

Traditionally a very popular destination for outdoor holidays, last year Pitchup.com took 46,000 bookings for outdoor breaks in Wales, with 57% of those made during the peak summer holiday period. Overall, bookings across the year were down just 3% compared to 2019, despite months of enforced closures across the earlier part of the year.

With international travel off the cards from the UK until 17th May at the earliest, Wales can expect to pick up some of the increased demand for ‘staycations’ as people look to enjoy safe holidays in the great British outdoors this year.

As the name suggests, Nightsky Glamping in Pwllheli is the perfect place to spend an evening enjoying company under the stars.

Guests can dawdle out to the seating on the decking area after a dip in private hot tubs to stoke up the barbecue and outdoor log burner while enjoying a marshmallow or two under the stars, before heading inside to spacious glamping tents. During the day, head out on an alpaca walk with the furry friends that live in the nearby fields, or drive five minutes to Porth Neigwl Beach for surfing and sandy beaches.

Brynteg Glamping, Isle of Anglesey
With pods including underfloor heating, ensuites with power showers and well-equipped kitchenettes, Brynteg Glamping is a rather fancy spot for a holiday in north Wales. And that’s before gazes fall upon the private wood fired hot tubs and views over mighty Snowdonia in the distance.

The 24-acre site is a 15-minute walk from the closest town of Brynteg and about 30 minutes from the nearest shops and supermarkets at Benllech. Bring a food haul back to your pod as each comes kitted out with a patio area with a gas barbecue. The area is also a haven for hikers, with the coastline of Anglesey and peaks of Snowdonia National Park close by.

The Nuthatch, Conwy
This converted hayloft is in peaceful North Wales countryside, close to Colwyn Bay, Conwy and Snowdonia National Park. Sleeping two, it makes a splendid spot for grownup getaways in a secluded farm setting. Pentre Du Farm, where The Nuthatch is located, has some pretty special views over the surrounding countryside and is home to a troop of curious cows. It’s close to the small village of Llysfaen (a couple of minutes’ drive), where there’s a local food shop and a takeaway. Mynydd Marian Local Nature Reserve is about 20 minutes away on foot, while the coast is 10 minutes by car.

Brynllwyd Glamping, Ceredigion
Just 20 minutes drive from Aberystwyth, Brynllwyd Glamping is well-equipped for stylish breaks. Cosy up in pods that sleep up to five, complete with ensuite bathrooms and fully equipped kitchens. The decking area outside is just as inviting, with loungers and a seating area for alfresco dining, and a fire pit for grilling some grub (a welcome pack of kindling, logs and charcoal is provided to get guests started). The rest of the evening can be spent under the stars in the bubbly hot tub…
