In a year like no other, local takeaways have played a symbolic role in the communities over the past 12 months. But it’s not only providing us with moments of joy that we should be grateful for as they have also been a vital lifeline to many who are shielding, or are perhaps key workers and work night shifts or cannot get to the shops.
In their sixth year, The British Takeaway Awards, sponsored by Just Eat, will recognize these heroes in a new category – decided upon by the Judge’s – called ‘Good Deed Hero’ – alongside ‘The Best Takeaway Chef’ and the ‘Best Takeaway in Britain’. While consumers will vote for the winners of ‘The Best Local Independent Restaurant’ and ‘The Best Restaurant Chain’ (of 6-30 sites).
Andrew Kenny, MD of Just Eat commented: “The British Takeaway Awards are a great way for people to support local, independent restaurants in their towns and cities. It’s been a tough year for the high street and the hospitality industry but our local takeaway restaurants have played a key role in supporting individuals and families as well the wider local community.
There are 5000 restaurants registered for the British Takeaway Awards and very person who votes for their winner will be entered into a prize draw to win a takeaway every month for a year, courtesy of Just Eat.
Voting is now open until 15th April with the UK being urged to vote for their local food heroes to give them the chance to see the glitz and glamour of the award ceremony and win an award for their hard-work and incredible food in 2021. To vote for your favourite takeaway visit www.thebtas.co.uk
