Welsh businesses and the hospitality sector have been “let down and left behind” by a lack of financial support – Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price has said.
Mr Price was responding to reports that the Labour Welsh Government’s Economic Resilience Fund package will not be extended beyond March – as businesses had expected.
The approach from Ministers is one of “showing contempt to key sectors of the economy on the eve of the holiday season.”
The Plaid Cymru leader endorsed the view of some businesses who say they have been “misled” by ministers over future financial support.
Adam Price said:
“Time and again, independent Welsh businesses which are the lifeblood of our economy are being led down and left behind.
They’ve been given little detail on reopening and now they face the prospect of being shut at the beginning of the holiday season with no further financial support available.
The Welsh Government wants the last round of financial support to have elastic sides to it – even though it was due to come an end tomorrow.
Extending its coverage without increasing the pot does not help businesses who, in the some cases, face tough decisions about their long term viability.
It’s time for the Labour Welsh Government to dig deeper and stop showing contempt to key sectors of the economy on the eve of the holiday season.”
