These guarantees without showing financial backing just raises further questions, says GMB Union
GMB, the steel union, has responded to comments by Sanjeev Gupta that he would not give up on Liberty Steel workers and none of the plants would close under his watch.
Ross Murdoch, GMB National Officer, said:
“Mr Gupta’s comments are very welcome – and will be welcomed by Liberty Steel workers across the country.
“But to be able to give these guarantees with such confidence you have to assume he’s found the financing required to keep the company going.
“If that’s the case he needs to let people know and stop workers worrying about their jobs.
“Otherwise these comments just raise further questions.”
