The impending lift of lockdown has certainly raised the curtain on sports as outdoor activities become more prominent once again.
Restrictions on attendance still largely remain in place but with the industry going virtual, races are witnessing astonishing increases in viewing ratings and there’s plenty of action to see. Here’s some of the latest news in Wales rugby, football and horse racing.
Hanno Dirksen bows out of Wales rugby to US borders
Establishing himself a name in Wales over the past 12 years, Hanno Dirksen of the Ospreys has ended a treasured era in Wales in order to pursue Major League Rugby opportunities with NOLA Gold (otherwise known as New Orleans Gold).
Never quite managing to win a Wales cap, he bade farewell with 154 games and 40 tries locked under his arm, along with a commemorative framed jersey.
On the flip side, exciting news on the Women’s Six Nations tournament as two new Wales caps have been announced for the face off against France. Donna Rose of the Saracens and Jess Roberts of Sale have both been included in the starting XV for the opening game, with Teleri Wyn Davies also scheduled to get her first start.
Men’s Six Nations is also already underway.

Wales defeat Czech Republic in World Cup 2022 qualifiers
After a tough battle throughout the match, the World Cup qualifier between Wales and the Czech Republic became even more heated as both teams fought hard to get a goal.
The match was eventful to say the least with both teams having a man sent off, but it was a late header by Daniel James that saved the game and gave the glory to Wales.
Striker Patrik Schick was the first to be given marching orders off the pitch following an incident with Connor Roberts, and Roberts was soon to receive a second yellow card. It was a close call as Wales nearly lost another man as it appeared Gareth Bale intentionally elbowed Ondrej Kudela in the face. Though no booking came of it.
Currently placing third in Group E, 1 point behind Czech Republic, Belgium still holds a firm stance as leaders of the group, although Wales is one game behind. So, results can still change drastically.
West Wales National bags John Flint
Still preparing for the likes of the Scottish National, renowned trainer from Bridgend, John Flint, has worked wonders with Amateur who previously lacked fluency in performance.
Following ‘intensive schooling’ at Henrietta Knight’s, Amateur looks to move away from the Devon National fourth on to promises of ‘lots of fun’ with the Wales National coming up at the end of the year.
Speaking of Nationals, the famous Grand National rapidly approaches at Aintree as well as the West Wales National Handicap Chase. Taking place at Ffos Las, 14 racers have been confirmed for the event, with the current leading favourite being Volcano, trained by Sheila Lewis.
