Ceredigion residents are being urged not to lose their vote by ensuring that they sign up to register to vote, ahead of the Senedd and Police Crime Commissioner elections held in May this year.

Everyone aged 16 or over including eligible foreign citizens can now register to vote in the Senedd Elections.

There is a different rule for the Police Crime and Commissioner election, you must be 18 years of age before you can vote. However, you can sign up if you are 16 or 17 years old so that you can use your vote once you have reached the age of 18.

The deadline to register to vote for the May 2021 elections is midnight on Monday 19 April. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 20 April, and for a proxy vote the deadline is 5pm on 27 April. You can register to vote here: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Eifion Evans, Returning Officer for Ceredigion, said: “Residents are being encouraged to sign-up for postal voting so they can cast their vote from home ahead of polling day. However, if residents wish to vote in person, measures will be put in place in order to ensure that they can vote in a safe environment.”

Ceredigion County Council is working with neighbouring local authorities and the Electoral Commission to ensure that everyone can vote safely in the 06 May elections in line with Covid-19 safety guidance.

For those who wish to cast their vote in person on 06 May, polling stations will be open from 7am up until 10pm.

Further information about the elections is available on the Council’s website: www.ceredigion.gov.uk/your-council/voting-elections/. It’s also worth keeping an eye out on the Council’s social media pages at @CeredigionCC on Facebook and Twitter and @CaruCeredigion on Instagram.
