Following the publication today of a damming report by the House of Commons Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Committee into the national Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme, Jane Dodds Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats has called for an urgent review of the scheme.
The report found that the UK Government has benefited to the tune of £4.4 billion from the scheme whilst successive administrations “failed to deliver” improvements for thousands of former pit-workers.
Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds has called for an urgent review of the scheme:
“It can not be right that a miner who worked underground in dangerous conditions for 30 years receives so little while the government makes so much.
“This whole scheme needs to be reviewed urgently, to ensure those in receipt of these pensions get a decent and fair reward for their lifetime of work.”
