Dear Sir or Madam,
The beach has long been a popular destination for dog walkers since it gives their pets the freedom to roam an open space, have a splash in the sea and socialise with fellow four-legged friends. As a nation of dog-lovers, we’d do anything to protect our pooches but with their superior sense of smell, it is often difficult to assess all of the dangers that may be present on your beach dog walk.
Over the years, dog-walkers have reported contaminated clumps of oil washing up on local beaches. Despite being harmful to animals, the curious nature of our dogs results in them seeing these clumps as food and often they are not able to leave them alone. Here are some simple steps to follow to make sure you and your canine best friend can enjoy a fun but safe trip to the beach! These include supervising your dog at all times so you can catch them sniffing anything that doesn’t look right as well as distracting them from washed up objects by throwing a ball or frisbee.
If you would like any further information or questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Best wishes,
Elspeth
