40 years ago today I (Lawrence Molloy) was at Deepdale with my family to witness the Swans win promotion to Division One (02/05/1981)
It was a landmark event for Swansea City to rise from the old fourth division to division one.
A tremendous achievement recognised by Liverpool’s legendary manager Bill Shankly who described John Toshack as the “Manager of the Century “ for what he has achieved at Swansea.
I was aged 22 and now 40 years on still rate that game at Preston as one of my top Swans games that I was lucky enough to have seen in person during my 60 years of supporting the Swans.
Harry Griffiths started the ball rolling in our rise to the top with some wonderful football and the icing on the cake was when Swans chairman brought John Toshack into the club and the rest his history.
Fantastic memories for over 10,000 Swans supporters who travelled to Deepdale and a 40 years anniversary well worth remembering and celebrating.
