Amazon launches first live virtual visitor tours of its fulfilment centres
Amazon is launching the first live virtual tours of its fulfilment centres in the UK. Experienced tour guides from seven fulfilment centres will take visitors live to the various stations which a product passes at Amazon.
If you have ever wondered how your Amazon order reaches your home, you can register for a live virtual tour of a fulfilment centre free of charge. You have the opportunity to make your tour unique by asking questions and interacting live with the tour guides.
Tour guides from seven of Amazon’s UK fulfilment centres – Manchester, Rugeley, Tilbury, Peterborough, Doncaster, Dunstable and Dunfermline – will walk guests through Amazon’s massive fulfilment centres where employees pick, pack and ship customer orders.
Visitors will see some of the great technology and people involved in Amazon’s UK operations. The virtual tours replace in-person tours which were paused at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amazon UK Regional Director Neil Travis said: “We paused public tours of our fulfilment centres when the pandemic struck but the demand for the tours is still there, so I am delighted to announce we came up with this virtual solution. Now, people from right across the UK – in fact from around the world – can sign up for a live virtual tour and see behind the scenes at Amazon from the comfort of their own sofa.”
Visitors can sign up for a free tour here and the hour-long experience also includes the opportunity to ask questions of the tour leaders.
“In 2019, the last full year of hosting in-person public tours at our UK fulfilment centres, we welcomed more than 55,000 guests curious to see what goes on behind the scenes and the safe modern work environment we provide. We’ve hosted members of MENSA, the armed forces, logistics professionals and the Scouting organisation,” added Neil.
“We’ve also been used as a training area for special assistance dogs and one guest came from as far as the Philippines to look at a number of our fulfilment centres. We’ve even seen someone mark their wedding anniversary with a tour – but as fascinating as the tours are, I’m not sure they’re the perfect anniversary gift for every couple!”
Sign up for a free tour here. After registering, guests will be sent a link which allows them to take the tour via a PC, tablet or smartphone.
