Dear Editor,
After the year we’ve all had, we could all do with a bit more play and I’ve got the perfect reason to do just that. I’m asking people across Wales to come together this Childhood Day to play, raise money and help keep children safe.
I have two children and I know how much they love to play. Childhood Day on Friday 11 June is a great excuse to have fun and get the adults involved too. Why not challenge your mates to a game of rugby or a tug of war, grab your colleagues for a sports day in the park, or get the kids together for a fancy-dress garden play day or gaming afternoon?
All the money raised from Childhood Day will help the NSPCC prevent abuse and keep children safe. Children and young people face many challenges in today’s climate – in fact in the last year Childline delivered almost 90,000 counselling sessions about mental health or abuse across the UK. Of the 73,088 sessions about mental or emotional health, 5,646 were with children aged 11 or under – an increase of nearly a third compared to the year before.
I’ve seen the work the charity’s staff and volunteers do in Wales. It changes lives, and you can help make a difference. It doesn’t matter how you play, but that you play your part to help the NSPCC protect children. Sign up for a free fundraising pack of fun play ideas via the NSPCC .
