DATA: Online job applications most popular with Gen Z with 16% using online sites

As jobs have changed, so have our ways of getting our foot in the door.

Moneypenny has revealed exactly how the job application process has changed over the years, highlighting how Gen Z’s application experiences differ to Boomers’.

They surveyed 2,000 UK adults, and asked them how they secured their first role in the working world as teens.

Applying online was the most popular amongst Gen Z (18-24), with 16% saying so.

Whilst 34% of Boomers (65+) simply walked into the workplace of their first job and requested employment.

This method was not as popular with Gen Z, as just 20% of 18-24 year olds said the same.

Instead, 29% opted to hand their CV into the workplace themselves, providing all the information they need.

Some utilised their connections, highlighting that a friend or relative securing the job for them was most popular with 25 to 34 year olds (39%).

22% of Gen Z said the same, alongside 29% of Boomers.

A less popular option was ringing up the business and to enquire about potential job openings, with 6% of Gen Z, and 5% of Boomers selecting this option.

The report also revealed how people across the UK felt about their first jobs. The data is broken down by region, age and gender. It analyses even further, discussing how people felt about their first jobs, how many hours they worked and even the motivation behind stepping into the world of work.
