  • The British Takeaway Awards, in partnership with Just Eat, celebrates the UK’s independent restaurant sector
  • Restaurants across the UK announced as finalists for coveted awards, following a public vote
  • With dine-in forced to close, the awards will hero food businesses that continued to support local communities during a turbulent 2020

The British Takeaway Awards (BTAs) in partnership with Just Eat, champions independent takeaways who throughout the past 18 months have played a particularly important part in British life. Today, the finalists, as voted for by the public, have been revealed with all in the running to win ‘Best Takeaway’ in each of the awards’ twelve regions, as well as the chance to win one of the prestigious national awards including ‘Best Takeaway in Britain’.

This year’s BTAs, held in London in September, will pay tribute to the hardworking restaurants that have adapted during the pandemic to deliver a taste of normality to those working from home, self isolating or simply looking for their favourite food as lockdown forced restaurants to close to diners.

Whether they’ve supported key workers and those in need in the local community or catered to the ever changing demands for alternative diets including vegan cuisine and healthier alternatives, the awards will give takeaways the recognition they deserve following a turbulent 2020. Regional winners will receive £1,000 to further their business with the overall ‘Best Takeaway in Britain’ award receiving the prize of £5,000.

2021’s finalists in alphabetical order are:

Central London

Greater London

East Midlands

North East

Northern Ireland

North West

Scotland

South East

South West

Wales

West Midlands

Yorkshire

New for 2021 is the ‘Best Restaurant Chain in Britain’, an award which will recognise Britain’s best independent small chain with between six and thirty restaurants to receive a prize of £5,000. In alphabetical order the finalists are:

  • Caprinos
  • Churchill’s Fish & Chips
  • Jungle Grill
  • Nuudle Bar
  • Treatz

Other awards announced on the night as judged by the panel include ‘Best Takeaway Chef in Britain’, the ‘New to Delivery’ award and the newly added ‘Good Deed Hero’ award – which will honour a restaurant that has gone above and beyond serving their community during the pandemic.

Andrew Kenny, Managing Director of Just Eat commented: “We’re thrilled to be back with the British Takeaway Awards for the sixth year running. Each year we’re amazed by the standard of entries and this year is no different, with a huge range of restaurants up for the awards, from family run takeaways to small chains.’’

‘’Celebrating the fantastic local takeaways across the UK is particularly important this year after many turned to their local restaurants for a lift throughout the lockdowns. The UK has been voting in force to give back to their local takeaway heroes and we can’t wait to honour the winners at the awards ceremony in September”
