WALES TIPPED TO TIP MORE IN AID OF THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
– Hospitality workers could get a big boost from returning punters with tip jars expected to ring to the tune of £16 billion in gratuities per year* –

The UK’s leading hospitality app OrderPay has revealed that 23 million Brits are planning to begin leaving bigger or more regular tips, or begin tipping for the first time once hospitality venues fully open from Monday 21st June.
(67%) of people from Wales are planning to visit pubs, restaurants and bars up to seven, with the average person leaving a tip of £5.00 – worth potentially millions for hospitality staff in the country.
In fact, over a third (38%) of people living in Wales will start tipping, tip larger or tip more regularly post-lockdown, with those making a conscious effort to always tip citing their main reasons as wanting to: help hospitality staff earn more money (61%), keep the venue afloat (38%), and as “accidental savers” of lockdown pass on the extra cash to staff (23%).
Indeed, more than one in five (22%) people in Wales would tip more if they knew their server was supporting family members, saving for college (12%) or saving for rent (21%).
These findings released by OrderPay to coincide with the reopening of hospitality in England on 21st June, aim to highlight how publicans and venue owners can take advantage of the new tipping feature.
Just over a third (38%) of people in Wales say they feel very or slightly awkward leaving a tip if a member of staff is overlooking them while they pay their bill.
Therefore, being able to tip via an app could help hospitality workers earn more. To further encourage this, OrderPay plans to reward some of the nation’s top tippers over the coming months with in-app gifts and surprises – more information will be released on OrderPay social channels: @OrderPayUK
Over a half (78 %) of those who don’t tip feel that they’ve already paid enough for food and drinks, while others simply pay the amount shown on the payment terminal (7%).
