Gousto’s new Wild Buns range to cause a stir in kitchens

  • Recipe box launches daring DIY burgers as the nation gains braver taste buds.

  • Wild Buns range includes Peanut Butter & Jam burger and Cream Tea burger.

Brits are bolder with flavour than ever before, with lockdown boredom inspiring the nation to experiment with new and quirky food combinations, according to new research from recipe box Gousto.

The research finds that over one in five (22%) have been more experimental with flavours in the last 12 months with half saying they are most comfortable trying unfamiliar dinners when cooked at home, compared to the 38% who would prefer to do so in a restaurant.

Over a third of people (39%) credited lockdown boredom for their new found food bravery while almost half (47%) used lockdown as an opportunity to upskill themselves in the kitchen.

Playing to the nation’s bolder palate, Gousto is launching a burger range that flips traditional flavour combinations on their head. The new Wild Buns range sees a new burger on the menu every week for five weeks, kicking off with a mouthwatering Peanut Butter and Jelly burger, in collaboration with award-winning peanut butter brand ManiLife.

The recipe box has also partnered with ‘the most loved Cornish clotted cream brand in the world’, Rodda’s Clotted Cream for a decadent Cream Tea Burger, spread with homemade tomato jam.

There are more irresistible collaborations with fan favourite Henderson’s Relish upgrading the classic beef burger,  much-loved Hellmans Mayo, perfect for a burger packed with chips, and controversial condiment Marmite starring in the Hot & Sweet Chicken Burger. And as if that wasn’t enough, all of the Wild Buns burgers have a vegetarian or vegan alternative, so everyone can dive in…

The ManiLife PB&J Burger

The classic combination of Peanut Butter and Jam becomes a dinnertime special in this deliciously decadent burger. A beef patty is smothered in melty cheddar cheese, ManiLife’s Original Roast Smooth peanut butter and chilli jam and served alongside crispy yet fluffy, smoky wedges.

The Rodda’s Cream Tea Burger

Is it cream before jam, or jam before cream? Either way, this burger is a showstopper. A conventional cream tea is given a shake up in this recipe, as homemade tomato jam is dolloped alongside Rodda’s clotted cream over a beef patty, for a little taste of the South West. This one launches just in time for National Cream Tea Day too.

The Fiery Marmite-Glazed Burger

Whether you’re a lover or a hater, this Marmite glazed chicken burger packs a punch. Crispy chicken is coated in a fiery Marmite, honey and cayenne pepper glaze and packed into a brioche bun with roasted red pepper and rocket, with a side of chilli fries. Buckle up, this is one for the brave.
