Europe’s largest outdoor accommodation provider Pitchup.com has revealed Pembrokeshire is home to the platform’s fifth best-selling UK site and its bestselling in Wales for 2020 – Celtic Camping, near St Davids.

Pembrokeshire was also Pitchup’s most popular Welsh county and in its top ten UK counties, placing ninth. Overall, Pembrokeshire’s outdoor holidays went from strength to strength, accounting for 3.6% of all UK bookings on the platform, while the number of Pitchup.com bookings in the county grew by 16% year-on-year.

Celtic Camping, which is just four miles from St Davids, was booked over 1,460 times on Pitchup, com in 2020, despite lockdown restrictions meaning campsites could not reopen until 4th July.

Dan Yates, founder of Pitchup.com, said: “Celtic Camping is a wonderful example of the high quality campsites that are available in stunning coastal and seaside locations across the UK. With its spacious pitches, stunning sea views, close proximity to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, and being located on a 250-acre National Trust Farm, it really does offer the perfect rural retreat”

“2020 was a tumultuous year for everyone, particularly so for the travel and hospitality sectors. We’re pleased to say that we still saw consistent growth in bookings, which in part has been supported by the boom in staycations as people look for relaxing getaways closer to home and at a good price. It’s also given people the opportunity to discover more of the beautiful countryside on their doorstep, and we expect that to continue into summer 2021 and beyond. We’re already seeing record numbers of new sites across the UK joining the platform with 183 in April alone, and May is set to beat that with over 200 signing up over the past weeks. There’s plenty of choice and availability for this summer for a  break in the great outdoors.”

Ian Griffiths, owner of Celtic Camping, said: “We are thrilled to be Pitchup.com’s best-selling site in Wales and in its UK top five for 2020. To us, it really is a testament to the service we provide to our guests as well as the care we take of the camping site and the National Trust farm it sits on. Over almost 30 years and alongside the farm, we have built a camping business that we are exceptionally proud of and often have campers who come back year-on-year. Through Pitchup.com we have been able to raise the profile of Celtic Camping, maximise staycation bookings and, in turn, grow our business further. With domestic travel’s return and summer fast-approaching, we’re excited to welcome campers to the site and hope to grow even further this year.”

Situated on a 25-acre National Trust Farm, just four miles from the renowned city of St Davids, Celtic Glamping offers both electric and non-electric grass pitches for tents, trailer tents, campervans, caravans and motorhomes. The family and dog friendly campsite has showers, a toilet block, washing-up area and wifi, as well as offering parking by the pitch. As well as being within easy reach of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, the pebbly cove of Aber Pwll and Whitesands Bay, campers will find shops and activities such as surfing, tennis, cycling and fishing are all available nearby. Pitches start from just £24 per night.
