Neath Port Talbot Council has published its report of consultation on proposals to establish an English-medium 3-11 school to replace Alltwen, Godre’rgraig and Llangiwg Primary schools.

The report can be seen here: https://www.npt.gov.uk/1890

The council sought views between November 3rd last year and January 9th this year on its proposals for a new, 21st century primary school for the Swansea Valley to replace Alltwen, Godre’rgraig and Llangiwg Primary schools.

The proposal is the new school would be built on land in Parc Ynysderw, Pontardawe, forming part of a learning, health and wellbeing community campus made up of Cwmtawe Community School and Pontardawe Leisure Centre, the campus including a six-lane swimming pool with additional learner pool to enhance the health and wellbeing offer for pupils and the wider community.

The background to the council’s reorganisation proposal and subsequent consultation is its responsibility for promoting high educational standards and for delivering efficient primary and secondary education.

Having the right schools in the right place and ensuring that they are fit for the 21st Century learner is the challenge facing councils across Wales and the rest of the UK.

Publication of the consultation report is the next step in the school reorganisation process as set out in the Welsh Government’s statutory School Organisation Code.

The report contains a comprehensive summary of comments and contains a wide variety of views, including those of parents, pupils, town and community councils, Senedd Members, trade unions and Welsh education and training inspectorate Estyn.
