Struggling with mental health troubles is as unique as people themselves are. Everyone has their own way of coping with it. We all can relate to the feeling of being anxious.

The emotion of fear, congestion in the chest, trembling hands and feet and what not? No matter how it comes to you the fact is that it can leave you wandering in spaces and feeling empty.

For me, anxiety was sudden episodes of fear, increased heartbeat and sweating in between. I eventually went to seek out help and went to a renowned psychiatrist and it took me quite a time to recover.

How to deal with anxiety?

Based on my experience with anxiety, here I’m sharing a few tips that can help you to deal with anxiety.

1- Stay in the current time zone

A predominant cause of anxiety is worrying about the future and not living in the moment. Thinking about distant scenarios can leave you exhausted. For better health, you need to be mindful of your current circumstances and not bother about what has to come your way. Staying in the moment and enjoying every bit of it can help protect you from these unwanted anxiety attacks.

2- Keep your thoughts in check

One of the biggest causes of anxiety is the uncontrolled thought you can have. When you don’t have control over your thoughts you end up thinking about things more often than needed. This overthinking can mentally drain you leaving you fatigued. This gives us another way to overcome our anxiety by monitoring our thoughts and keeping them in check. Practice can make you learn to control your thoughts over time.

If you have trouble controlling your thoughts, try doing certain activities that can make you feel better. Such minor interruptions can break the cycle of your thoughts.

3- Eat well to get rid of anxiety

The food you eat directly affects your health. This takes in both your physical and mental health. Most of us can relate to the fact that eating certain foods can make us feel happy or likewise. Thus, there is an undying association between food and anxiety. Try consuming foods that make you feel happy. While eating such foods be mindful that you don’t ignore your health while making your food choices.

4- 3-3-3 rule

Another way to overcome your anxiety is practising the 3-3-3 rule. According to this rule, you need to name three things you see followed by naming three sounds you hear and moving three of your body parts respectively. This technique can help to improve your focus and keep your brain centred.

5- Avoid sugar

Anxiety’s response can be different for everyone. Many people among us find relief eating chocolates or sugary things. It might seem to you that eating sugar can help you with anxiety but that’s not true. There is research supporting the fact that eating sugar while anxious can make it worse.

6- Sleep well

It can be hard to sleep while you are having an anxiety attack. However, regular sleep can help you to overcome your anxiety. You can try aromatherapy, controlling your blue light exposure, and limiting your caffeine intake to sleep better. However, if nothing seems to help you and you are continuously restless, then it is better to seek out help from a professional.

7- Seek out help

You can be the strongest yet you need help. You may feel bad but asking for help doesn’t make you any less. There is a dire need to understand that depending upon your mental state you can ask for help from a psychologist rather than suffering. You are the first person to know what you are going through as no one can figure it out better than you. So, the first step to deal with the problem is to recognize it first and get help whenever needed.

Bottom Line!

Mental health is as important as physical health. There is no wisdom in taking mental health problems lightly. If you are suffering from a mental health problem, stop looking for help from others and even don’t expect them to understand what you are going through. Address your own problems, work on yourself to improve your situation and go out and seek help from a psychologist whenever needed.
