Home-grown Ravens looking forward to 2022 Wales Airshow

Following the enforced grounding of the 2021 event due to the pandemic The Ravens have said they’ll be excited to return next year instead to perform in the airborne spectacular.

Swansea Council is already planning for next year’s event which, pandemic restrictions permitting – promises to be the best yet.

In a statement Team Ravens said: “We are of course very disappointed to hear of the cancellation of the Swansea Airshow for a second year running as a result of the pandemic.

“As Wales’ only formation aerobatic display team consisting of largely Welsh pilots it is a shame that these unprecedented times have required the council to take this difficult decision and which has meant that once again, we will be unable to showcase ourselves to our home crowd of Swansea.

“We especially look forward to our most local of airshows and enjoy seeing Swansea from the display line in the bay and then meeting some of our fans down on the seafront. This year would’ve been our sixth year displaying here.

“Hopefully, next year things will be better & we very much look forward to seeing our home venue from upside-down in the Bay!”

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “While it’s sad but necessary to call off this year’s Wales Airshow we’re determined that next year’s event will be the best we’ve ever done.

“The Ravens are massively popular and have been a real highlight of previous Wales Airshows. So it’ll be great to see them back next year.”

He said the council was desperate to see a return for Wales’ biggest free spectator event this year and had delayed making a decision for as long as possible in the hope the show could go on.

“However for the Wales Airshow, which takes months to plan and attracts more than 250,000 visitors, it unfortunately takes place before the point where there is certainty about whether restrictions laid down by the national governments, would allow an event with such large numbers.”

But he added: “We want to restart our amazing annual events programmes as soon as the pandemics restrictions allow. We know people want to get back to enjoying concerts, events, gigs and festivals and we are working hard to design a programme that could be activated for the latter part of 2021 and early next year.”
