REVEALED: Wales’ Most Popular Euro 2020 Team According to Google Searches

• Google search data from the past 12 months analysed for most searched Wales XI
• Daniel James, Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey all comfortably make the team; places too for Neco Williams and Joe Rodon
• Research also analysed most searched players available for tournament, with Cristiano Ronaldo top, averaging over 6 million searches a month in the past year
• Wales’ Gareth Bale is the joint-fifth most searched player to be at the tournament, with an incredible 1 million searches each month
• Five of the ‘most searched XI overall’ eleven ply their trade in the Premier League, with two playing in the Bundesliga and Serie A, with one each from La Liga and Ligue 1

Wales’ most popular Euro 2020 team according to Google searches has been revealed.

scotts Menswear did the legwork and found the most searched Wales players in the 12 months building up to the tournament.

Wayne Hennessey takes his place in between the sticks, with the Crystal Palace stopper averaging just over 12k searches of his name a month. This makes him slightly more popular than the next closest keeper competitor – Adam Davies – who receives 8.1k each month.

Into the defence and the most searched of the back four over the past year is Ben Davies. The Tottenham left back averaged 165k searches of his name each month over the past year, making him by far the most popular full back.

The rest of the defence is made up of Liverpool’s Neco Williams (110k), Joe Rodon also of Spurs (74k), while the most popular right back was veteran Chris Gunter (8k).

Into midfield and by far the most popular player in this position is Aaron Ramsey. The experienced Juventus midfielder has over 60 caps at international level and makes his way into the side with 135k searches each month on Google.

Joining Ramsey in the middle of the park is Bournemouth’s David Brooks, who boasts 90.5k internet enquiries every four weeks. He’s followed by Harry Wilson, who once became the youngest player to pull on the Wales shirt – he’s on 74k searches a month.

Up top, the most searched forward player is, quite comfortably, Gareth Bale; the 31-year-old is one of football’s superstars and a name known all over the world, as such, he averages an astounding one million searches a month. Also forcing their way into the starting eleven are Daniel James of Manchester United who manages 201k searches and Kieffer Moore, who has 27k.

In addition, the research also looked at the most searched players from teams at the tournament.

The most searched player from Euro 2020 is, perhaps not too unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward is one of only two male footballers to score over 100 international goals  and he came out comfortably on top here, with an average of over 6 million searches a month in the past year.

This incredible number makes Ronaldo at least three times more popular than any other player, according to Google searches, with the second on the list being PSG’s French striker Kylian Mbappé (1.8m) and Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimović (1.5m) in third.

Furthermore, the study analysed the most searched players in each position.

In goal, there’s Bayern Munich ‘keeper Manuel Neuer. The German stopper has an average of over half a million (550k) searches a month on Google, more than double that of his next European rivals, Dean Henderson and David de Gea (both 246k).

The defence is made up of two of Gareth Southgate’s England hopefuls; with Harry Maguire (450k) a dead cert to start in the heart of the backline – if he’s fit – and Trent Alexander-Arnold (246k) – if he’s picked – can at least claim to be the most-searched right back available to go to the tournament.

Sergio Ramos takes the other centre half berth and is most comfortably the most popular defender according to Google with 1.2m searches a month. The great irony is that the Spaniard, now 35, will not be heading to the tournament after failing to be selected by Spain boss, Luis Enrique. The defence is completed with Bayern Munich’s David Alaba at left back; the Austrian defender is inspected nearly half a million times each month (450k).

Onto the midfield and there’s a heavy Premier League presence as all three in the engine room play in England. Bruno Fernandes is easily the most searched midfielder and averages one million Googles per month. Following him in the midfield is German star Kai Havertz, the Chelsea youngster has three goals in 13 games for Die Mannschaft and roughly 823,000 searches. Making up the trio is Liverpool central midfielder Thiago, the Spanish star has been hit and miss in his first season in England but makes the XI, with 673,00 internet searches.

Finally, those up front are actually the top three most searched players. Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé and Zlatan Ibrahimović have a combined total of over 9 million enquiries made of them on the internet each month and are quite clearly some of the most talented players in Europe still.
