Commenting on the First Minister’s announcement of changes to Wales’s lockdown restrictions from Monday, Jane Dodds MS, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, said:
“I welcome the Welsh Government’s cautious decision to begin a phased move to Level 1 restrictions across Wales, starting with outdoor events, from Monday.
“With Wales’s level of Covid-19 cases remaining the lowest in the UK, and the continued efficient rollout of the vaccine, it’s important we relax restrictions and restore people’s freedoms so we can enjoy the summer months.
“However, we must be mindful that after more than a year of rapidly changing restrictions people are exhausted. The Welsh Government must ensure that we have clear and consistent messaging – to avoid confusion and ensure we don’t see a huge erosion in compliance.
“I would also like to see a review of the rules around hospital visitation and accompaniment. These rules currently vary from Health Board to Health Board and have not been updated since late April.
“Ensuring people can be with their family and loved ones during difficult and emotional times must be a priority.”
