Yoppie, the pioneers of personalised period care, have found that one in five women admit to struggling with the cost of period care at some point in their lifetime, with the vast majority also wanting to see free products become more widely available.

Yoppie’s research shows that 20% of women have struggled to afford adequate period care at some point in their lives, while 13% have also struggled to access period care products.

When asked if they thought free period care should be more widely accessible, an overwhelming 98% agreed.

Yoppie also looked at where across the nation posed the highest threat of period poverty, based on the estimated cost of period care in relation to the average net female earnings.

With the average woman spending £55.80 on tampons and pads every year, those in North Norfolk (0.39) face the biggest potential threat from period poverty with the average female taking home a net salary of just £14,354.

Rotherham and Middlesborough (0.38) also scored high, with areas such as Pendle, St Ives, Great Yarmouth, Bolton North East, Blackburn, Preston, Suffolk, and Kingston upon Hull also making the top 20 list.

Founder of Yoppie, Daniella Peri, commented:

“For one in five women to have struggled with the cost of period care in this day and age is simply not good enough and all too often, having to opt for the cheapest product possible will also mean choosing one full of chemicals that can actually be harmful for our bodies.

This isn’t an issue confined to just one part of the country and our research shows that, in fact, the cost of period care can be an issue for women up and down the nation. So it’s hardly surprising that more women would like to see greater access to free period products.

We’re hoping we can do our part to help without them having to compromise on the quality of care they use on their bodies by providing 100% organic period care that is free of plastics, fragrances, dyes, synthetic fibres and chemical additives  , while also giving them the opportunity to share the love with friends and family.”
