Welsh Cup Cricket Ammanford CC hosted Pembroke Dock CC at Ammanford Park on Sunday 06/06/2021 Alun Wyn Evans won a useful toss and elected to bat first in this 40 overs contest. Ammanford Park was an inviting setting and looked glorious in the Summer sunshine.
Ammanford’s innings stuttered along with Owen Davies making a valuable contribution of 36. Pembroke Dock bowlers led by Nick Daley who was the pick of the Pembroke Dock attack returned bowling figures of 4-23. He also held onto two catches to help dismiss Eirian Morgan and Mathew Fisher two of Ammanford’s top order.
Pembroke Dock held their catches and stopped Ammanford from making a total in excess of 200 plus. So Ammanford eventually made a total of 161 – 9 at the end of their 40 overs.
Pembroke Dock were happy with their performance in the outfield and received warm applause as they left the field at the interval.
Pembroke Dock started their innings full of optimism as they believed the target set of 162 to win in 40 overs was achievable. Billy Wood of Pembroke Dock made a useful 34 before being bowled by young Callum Croft son of England and Glamorgan’s star spinner Robert Croft.
Ammanford’s bowlers Llyr Morgan and Iestyn Jones took 3 Pembroke Dock wickets each to put an end to any Pembroke Dock momentum as the visitors reached a total of 92 all out after 31.2 overs. A valiant effort but it is Ammanford who progress in the Welsh Cricket Cup
