Fastidious Healing Within The Hyperbaric Chambers

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment has long been a signifier of megalomania, depression, and severe anxiety. The pop king Michael Jackson had one in his house. The great Olympian swimmer Michael Phelps is another avid user of Hyperbaric Oxygen treatment. But what do these hyperbaric chambers do? Generally, hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing unadulterated oxygen in a pressurised environment. During a hyperbaric treatment, you enter a semi-circular chamber with comfortable bedding arrangements, surrounded by thick plastic walls. After you enter your chamber, the technician inflates the bag. Using a Hyperbaric chamber in decompression sickness reduces the volume of the nitrogen bubbles and increases the amount of oxygen that the tissues can metabolise.

HBOT is used worldwide to help in the treatment of various conditions, injuries, and severe illnesses. However, research on using HBOT for myriad conditions can cause cognitive decline and ageing. Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is another example of HBOT used as a treatment. Carbon monoxide binds with hemoglobin more strongly than oxygen. The Hyperbaric oxygen treatment brings a high portion of oxygen levels to the blood and significantly reduces the half-life of carboxyhemoglobin.

What is Hyperbaric oxygen treatment?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a non-invasive treatment that increases the amount of oxygen in an individual, promoting the motion of stem cells and restoring damaged tissue to recuperate and heal internal wounds and external wounds. But before jumping the bandwagon of hyperbaric treatment, this pricey treatment needs to be performed under high supervision. The hyperbaric chambers can be utilised for many diseases and disorders- people with diabetes or suffering from concussions. However, it is better to seek guidance and advisory from a medical consultant or professional first.

Benefits of the HBOT

For years, hyperbaric oxygen treatment has been used for decompression sickness, when deep-sea divers surface too quickly without allowing time for the compressed air trapped in their joints to move and safely dissolve into the bloodstream. Since then, the hyperbaric chambers have been tested and expanded as a treatment module for various medical ailments. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves HBOT treatment for 13 medical conditions, including- burns, cancer, stroke, burns, and ischemia. Although not FDA granted, the therapy in hyperbaric chambers is also a powerful neurotherapeutic treatment for epilepsy, autism, and other neurological disabilities.

Other non-medical benefits of hyperbaric chambers oxygen therapy include cellular regeneration, promotion of blood flow, and speeds up the rehabilitating process from sports injuries. It promotes the flow of blood so that the cells and tissues bathe in oxygen-rich blood!

Additionally, muscular strength and overextension also increase by improving oxygen-rich blood filtering through places of trauma. After the treatment, you observe a reduction in wrinkles, age spots, and sagging skin.

Another additional brownie point of HBOT is its use in the treatment of moderate to severe hangovers. Because the oxygen pushes in the tissues, the hyperbaric chambers treatment alleviates migraines, fatigue, and nausea.

Do’s and Don’ts before entering Hyperbaric chambers

A Hyperbaric oxygen treatment could be complex and dangerous if not performed under supervision or in the absence of medical professionals. Here is an overview to remember before entering hyperbaric oxygen chambers for therapy:

  • Cancel the appointment if you’re sick

Medical professionals recommend canceling or delaying the therapy session if you have a cold or other illness such as high blood pressure, fever, or flu-like symptoms. If a patient has a cold, it could affect their ability to clear their ears and lead to an inner ear injury.

  • Avoid certain medications

When receiving the treatment, refrain from combining a handful with the hyperbaric oxygen treatment, i.e., chemotherapies, topical ointments, or medication that prevents alcohol intake in patients with a history of alcohol addiction.

  • Potential side effects

Feeling fatigued after coming out of the hyperbaric chambers is normal. If you’re claustrophobic, you can be anxious throughout the therapy. Vision changes and finger numbness are subsided during the treatment. In rare cases, patients observe seizures or collapsed lungs.
