With Father’s Day fast approaching, the UK’s leading children’s charity Barnardo’s is reminding dads across Wales that an innovative online family centre is available  to support them every step of their parenting journey.

Barnardo’s Family Space, which is partly funded thanks to the generosity of the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, is a digital service for parents looking for information and advice.

And it includes a special section for fathers – whether they are new to parenting or experienced but facing a new challenge.

The section includes guidance about how to build stronger relationships with your child and how to help them with their development and learning.

It also has information about how to manage your child’s behaviour, from tots to teens, and how as a father you can manage your own wellbeing. There is also advice about being a step-parent.

Content for the site https://families.barnardos.org.uk/ has been created by experts from Barnardo’s children’s services across the UK, and there are also useful links to other trusted non-Barnardo’s resources.

Barnardo’s Chief Executive Javed Khan said: “As a father of four, I know that having children can be the most wonderful thing in the world, and can bring so much love and joy into your life. But I also know that the responsibility and daily challenges can be daunting – especially for parents who don’t have a big support network around them.

“When you are struggling it can be difficult to know who to turn to for help. That’s why we have a special section for dads on Barnardo’s Family Space, with advice not just on the importance of cuddles, talking to your children, playing together and helping with homework – but also on how to look after your own mental health and wellbeing too.

So far, the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more than £5million for Barnardo’s.
