Wales Euro 2020 Journey – Key Players for Chances of Qualifying!

Wales will make only their second appearance in a Euro Championship at this year’s postponed Euro 2020 tournament. The Welsh have shown much more consistency in recent years as they were also involved in the last Euros in 2016. During that tournament, the Welsh exceeded expectations by topping their group with 6 points, ensuring qualification by beating Slovakia and Russia and they only narrowly missed out on a draw with England after Daniel Sturridge scored a 92-minute winner.

As Wales go from strength to strength, the future also looks bright for them as they have several young prospects coming through the football system. But to get anywhere in this tournament, they will need their more senior players to perform to the best of their abilities.

Rob Page will act as caretaker manager for their games as current boss, Ryan Giggs, is currently being subjected to legal charges. Wales has been given a tough group as they will take on Switzerland first, followed by Turkey and then finally Italy.
We are going to look at a few of the key men for Wales and what will be needed from them throughout the tournament. Would any of these make your most popular Wales Euro 2020 team?

Gareth Bale, Real Madrid, 92 Caps

The Real Madrid superstar is the all-time leading scorer for Wales. He has always been very effective when putting on the red shirt and he will be the first name on the team sheet during this tournament. Bale’s experience will be of the utmost importance to Wales as a lot of the inexperienced players will look up to him for guidance and inspiration. He has had an inconsistent season playing for Tottenham, but has used the opportunity to regain match fitness in preparation for this tournament. Wales might be most effective from set-pieces, as Gareth Bale is regarded as one of the best dead ball specialists in the world today.

Aaron Ramsey, Juventus, 63 Caps

A player that has not featured for the national team as much as a player of his ability deserves. Over the years, Ramsey has suffered some injuries that have kept him out of action for long periods of time. After his Arsenal contract expired, Juventus jumped at the chance to sign him, knowing that, on his day, he can be a world-class player. If Ramsey can remain fit throughout the group stage, then they have a real fighting chance of progressing.

Joe Rodon, Tottenham Hotspur, 14 Caps

Rodon’s services were acquired by Tottenham in October 2020 for a reported fee of £11 Million. He was signed by the club after a strong recommendation by fellow Wales teammate, Gareth Bale. Rodon appeared 12 times in his first season in the top flight and gave a very good account of himself in the process. Rodon will play at the heart of the Wales defence and looks like he will be in for quite a busy time. During the group stages, he will likely come up against the likes of Immobile, Insigne, Yilmaz and Embolo and he will have his work cut out trying to keep them quiet.
