Two second half goals from Mumbles Rangers players Sam Evans and Luke Blackmore were enough to win this keenly contested friendly game against Aberfan FC from the South Wales alliance League.

The first half of this friendly was very even indeed with half chances falling to both teams. Young Rangers debutant goalkeeper Callum Andrews did well to get his hands on a long range shot from the Aberfan attack.

Perhaps the best chance of the first half was when the ball was whipped into the Aberfan penalty area but Rangers centre forward Bartley just couldn’t get the right connection on the ball.

The second half saw Aberfan continue to press with some neat interplay and again it was the Rangers goalkeeper Callum Andrews who was again called into action and made some fine saves to keep the Aberfan attacks out.

Slowly but surely the Rangers midfield started to get a grip of the game led by Craig Spring with Sam Evans in support. Declan Banfield was probing down the left flank and causing the visitors some concern.

Rangers forward Kevin Bartley came close to breaking the deadlock but saw his well taken shot just pass wide of the Aberfan goal.

Then into the final quarter of the game Rangers Sam Evans pounced and his low shot found the bottom corner of the Aberfan net. 1-0. They say good things come in twos and it wasn’t long before the best goal of the game came from Rangers substitute Luke Blackmore who hit a thunderous shot from distance that flew into the roof of the Aberfan net leaving the visitors stunned. 2-0.

Mumbles Rangers continued their game management to the end of the game with their centre backs Kurtis March and Brieg Matthews marshalling the Rangers defence. At the final whistle it was Rangers who came out on top but credit to the visitors who gave a very credible performance and it was a superb debut from Callum Andrews the young Rangers goalkeeper.

Manager Eirian Rees must be pleased with his team’s performance as preparations continue for the start of the new season.
