Ahead of the Welsh Government press conference, Plaid Cymru’s Deputy Leader and Health spokesperson, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS says measures other than vaccination should be utilised as a result of the increase in cases of the new Delta variant, and has called for Welsh Government to “provide leadership and support” for hospitality businesses.

Plaid Cymru’s Deputy Leader and Health spokesperson, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS said,

“With the continued rise in Delta variant cases, we mustn’t lose sight of the importance of a combination of extra measures alongside the vaccination programme in containing the spread.

“This should include a robust TTP process, reviewed by the Welsh Government as recommended by Audit Wales, and measures recommended by Independent SAGE, such as comprehensive support packages to enable people to self-isolate safely, and a ‘ventilation support fund’ for both homes and business.

“Support is needed for the hospitality industry in particular too – many in hospitality are still feeling the pinch from the unexplained gap in funding in April of this year and issues with availability of staff. Businesses in Wales will be looking to the Welsh Government to provide leadership and support at a time when many have genuine fears for the future.”
