There’s no absolute shortage of false articles and online cynics regarding CBD and its usage. Many myths and misconceptions go around on the internet, and they mislead countless people who would’ve otherwise benefited from using it.

Apart from its recreational purposes, CBD is also used for medicinal purposes. It treats various ailments in medicine, with lots of health practitioners claiming its effectiveness and value. As a supplement, CBD extracts and oils do wonders for the human body, and most beauty brands are beginning to incorporate it as the main ingredient in their cosmetics products.

CBD is gaining a lot of traction in skincare because of its potent anti-inflammatory effects. So what does this imply for people with inflamed skin? If you’re among them, you’ll be happy to know that CBD tinctures and creams may help alleviate the symptoms and calm your skin.

What Exactly Is CBD?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol, and it’s a cannabinoid found in Cannabis Sativa. It is extracted from the plant as oil, mixed with skincare products to make tinctures, creams, and lotions. CBD is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in cannabis plants, making up around 40% of the plant’s extracts.

CBD skincare is a significant venture, but the myths and misconceptions may make potential users afraid of the products. Here are some of the common myths going around.

1. CBD And Marijuana Are The Same Things

A simple answer to this statement is no.

However, this misconception is based on the mere fact that derivation of CBD from marijuana is possible, although it’s mostly gotten from the hemp plant. CBD derived from hemp is the safest option. This is because it contains a minuscule percentage of THC compared to that of marijuana.

For CBD to be considered safe for use, the THC percent has to be less than 0.3%, which CBD-based hemp has.

2. CBD Can Get You High

This is entirely false because CBD that’s legal for use has to have 0.3% of THC, which is a negligible amount and will in no way give you the mind-altering effects that marijuana gives. To get you high, one needs to have consumed at least 20% of THC.

However, it’s always a great idea to check the THC content of your CBD skincare products before purchasing them to ensure they’re what you want.

3. The CBD Skincare Industry Is Sketchy and Untrustworthy

Truth be told, the CBD industry, in general, is booming. The skincare side of it may be relatively new, but it’s showing promise beyond what many experts predicted. Like many other industries, its fair share of challenges has led to some giving it the moniker “fake.” There is no regulation on proper cultivation, manufacturing, and production or no standard guidelines per se.

As a result, you’ll find that some skincare brands sell low-quality items to make money quickly. Nevertheless, countless professional brands deliver great products that take care of the users’ needs without question.

A reliable way of knowing the quality of a skincare product is by using the Certificate of Analysis. Any quality CBD skincare product will have a document from an accredited lab that will show its complete composition.

There Isn’t Enough Research on CBD Skincare.

With the ever-growing clinical and scientific studies that prove the effectiveness and wellness benefits of CBD, these claims should be put to rest once and for all. The research on CBD skincare may be limited but what is available shows that using CBD is safe and advisable. The significant benefits of CBD skincare are related to the anti-inflammatory effects it has on the body.

In one of the studies published in the Journal of Dermatological Science in 2007, researchers isolated THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids from cannabis and applied them to human skin cells. They found that all the cannabinoids they tested inhibited the overproduction of keratinocytes, commonly seen in psoriasis patients.

CBD Products Are Not Legal

You may read articles and publications online that say CBD is legal in all 50 states, but there’s a catch. The legality of CBD is somewhat confusing and stems from the 2018 Farm Bill. Industrial hemp cultivation is legal in the United States, with each plant having a maximum of 0.3% THC.

Any product with more THC is classified as marijuana, is considered a schedule 1 drug, and thus federally illegal before the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Due to the 2018 US Farm Bill and the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), CBD products are legal in the US states as long as their THC content is not above 0.3%. Therefore, you can travel with CBD products without any trouble if the THC level is below what is stipulated.

Conclusion

Now that you’re no longer oblivious to these myths and misconceptions on CBD, it may be the perfect time to explore and experiment with this beautiful product that is also natural. In addition, CBD is by far much safer than marijuana. If you plan on getting CBD skincare products, however, it would be wise to consult a dermatologist for advice, dosage, and recommendations on the best one you can find out there.
