The Green Gathering, Thinking Globally, Acting Locally

The Green Gathering’s well-deserved reputation for making equality and sustainability engaging, is growing, with this year’s arts festival in Chepstow set to be more relevant and more exciting than ever.  The award-winning event takes place from 29th July – 1st August 2021.

The Green Gathering is proud to announce it has signed the Keychange Pledge.  Keychange is a movement that that counts the discounted, taking action to empower talented under-represented genders in the music industry.  The festival is joining over 400 music organisations who have pledged to achieve gender balance by 2022.  The Green Gathering 2021 has achieved an almost 50/50 split in our artists’ gender balance and has curated a line-up of remarkable female artists and female-led bands including:  ‘BBC Introducing’ favourite Satin Beige, a soulful, sassy, R&B cellist and singer songwriter; Genn an Anglo-Maltese musical riot, serving post-punk madness with a fun twist; Jessie Reid, weaving mesmerising guitar and lyrics, Jessie was shortlisted for Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition last year; and 3-piece outfit, The Borgias will wow with their fresh, fat, dance beats.  

Save The Planet – with Danger Bunting

Always looking for new ways to make The Green Gathering as low-impact as possible, the festival organisers have decided to phase out the use of hazard tape.  Of course, the festival must be safe, so the idea of replacing plastic tape with reusable, cloth bunting was born; and instead of simply buying bunting, festival visitors will be helping to make it.

Be inspired to make a difference with our thought-provoking lectures and discussions delivered by leading experts; and visit the exhibitors in our campaigns area for informal chats and information sharing with dedicated activists.  Our Speakers’ Forum 2021 line-up includes Clare Farrell (XR) making the connection between fashion, culture and our environmental crisis.  Jamie Kelsey Fry delivers a lecture entitled Adventures in Jazz and Democracy – from local communities reclaiming power through people’s assemblies to the world’s first global citizens’ assembly.  Universal Basic Income, a talk by Molly Scott Cato and Jonathan Williams, traces how the Pledge For UBI campaign led to the Welsh Government announcing a pilot for a basic income and shares how the campaign has progressed.

In the face of climate emergency, The Green Gathering is inviting festival goers to take a leap and become Green Travellers.  We are providing dedicated coaches and minibuses from key cities and an express shuttle bus from Chepstow railway station, plus a complimentary programme for those arriving by public transport or bicycle.
