Plaid Cymru’s Spokesperson for Education, Sian Gwenllian MS said it is “unfair” to force schools the burden of having to set their own Covid measures.
The Education Minister announced on Monday that Covid rules would be set by individual schools, and has faced criticism from teaching unions who say teaching staff need to concentrate on teaching and that a plan is needed much sooner than September.
Ms Gwenllian also said that teaching staff are already facing the “huge task” of supporting pupils after months of school closures.
Plaid Cymru’s Spokesperson for Education, Sian Gwenllian MS said,
“It is totally unfair for teaching professionals to carry the burden of making decisions on covid measures in schools, and creates opportunity for huge inconsistencies between different schools – what happens when nearby schools have completely different rules?
“Measures intended to keep pupils, staff and the wider community safe need to be driven by data and need to be made by experts. Teaching staff are already facing the huge task of supporting pupils after months of lost education.”
