Thanks to donations, Hywel Dda Health Charities has purchased new diagnostic equipment for use by audiologists at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth and Aberaeron Integrated Care Centre.

The tympanometer evaluates the functioning of the middle ear and the ear drum and can identify a variety of conditions including glue ear, otosclerosis and Menieres disease.

The equipment is used at ear, nose and throat clinics are held at Bronglais Hospital and Aberaeron Integrated Care Centre.

Head of Audiology Jane Deans said: “The new equipment provides a range of quality tests that are not available with the current equipment, allowing us to provide a clearer interpretation of the function of the middle ear and assist in a clearer diagnosis of middle ear conditions. It is particularly useful for tests on babies and very young children.

“The tympanometer is so beneficial, allowing us to streamline appointments and avoids the need for patients to go to other Hywel Dda sites for tests.”

Every penny donated to your NHS charity goes directly to help patients, service users and staff in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
