Plaid Cymru Senedd Member for South Wales Central, Heledd Fychan MS, has responded to the findings of a report by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council into flooding caused by storm Dennis last year saying that is raises “more questions than answers.”

The report notes there was “a significant blockage by woody materials” at the Pentre road culvert inlet, managed by Natural Resources Wales.

Commenting on the report Heledd Fychan MS said;

“Storm Dennis caused devastation for so many residents in Pentre last year and as a local councillor in Pontypridd, which was also flooded, I saw at first hand the heartbreak endured by so many households and businesses.

They deserve nothing less than a full and accurate account of what led to the worst flooding in the area for decades.

 Instead what we have is a disputed report by the Council placing the blame firmly at the door of Natural Resources Wales.

Sixteen months since storm Dennis and there is still no accountability or reassurance that lessons are being learnt.

 That is why we need a transparent and impartial public inquiry to give Pentre residents, and the residents of all communities that were flooded, the confidence that all relevant authorities will do everything in their power to prevent a repeat of these terrible events.”
