Responding to today’s press conference from the Welsh Government, Plaid Cymru’s spokesperson for Health and Care, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS said,
“While we’ve seen what appears to be an unhealthy obsession with politically-motivated dates in England, we are also familiar with the problems arising from not setting out the direction of travel in Wales.
“Welsh Government needs to be up-front about what the data is telling them, specifically on how the vaccination programme has impacted on the number of people becoming seriously ill as a result of infection.
“I, for one, am hoping that the data tells a positive story so we can move forward, concentrating then on tightening belts and braces on the vaccination programme and dealing with specific areas where transmission is still a problem. That’s important for people’s aspirations to travel – whilst rates continue to climb here, other countries are more likely to look unfavourably on welcoming us as visitors – and at the same time we need to play our part in stopping the circulation of the virus around the world.”
