DATA: The World’s Sportiest Countries, Revealed

Germany has been named the world’s sportiest country, according to a new study from Myprotein: https://www.myprotein.com/thezone/motivation/which-are-the-worlds-sportiest-countries/

The research looks at 134 countries around the world, collecting data across 10 different criteria, covering both professional performance and personal participation. This data is then used to give each nation a score out of 100.

Germany takes the title of the world’s sportiest country with a score of 70.42 out of 100. They placed in the top 10 for five different categories, as well holding the top spot for elite sport ranking and Winter Olympic medals. USA claims the number two position with a score of 67.96 out of 100, as well as the top spot for total Summer Olympic medals.

2)      United States of America (67.96)

3)      Sweden (66.16)

4)      Norway (64.47)

5)      Finland (61.45)

6)      Canada (58.09)

7)      Switzerland (56.86)

8)      Austria (55.63)

9)      Netherlands (52.1)

10)  Australia (51.96)

While Germany and USA dominate the professional performance categories, we get a different picture looking at personal participation.

Taiwan ranks #1 for sports participation, with 81% of the Taiwanese exercising regularly, followed by Norway and New Zealand, both with 79%.

Meanwhile, Sweden comes out on top for gym membership, with 22,239 memberships per 100,000 people, followed by Norway with 21,600 and USA with 19,393.
