Hywel Dda Health Charities has been able to provide a hand-held, heart rate monitor for mums-to-be at Glangwili Hospital, thanks to fundraising by one of the community midwives, Sharon Jones.

Sharon raised nearly £1,000 by taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon and wanted some of the money to be used to buy a waterproof Sonicaid for the MidwifeLed Unit in Carmarthen, to help with home water births.

Sister on the MLU, Sarah Bradley (pictured), said: “This is a fantastic piece of equipment and we are immensely grateful to Sharon for her fundraising to enable our unit to have one.

“The Sonicaid is in daily use in the unit during labour and for ante-natal checks but, also, because it can be used in water, it is a huge benefit during home water births to listen to baby’s heart rate.”

We would like to say a big thank you to Sharon for her half-marathon fundraising.
