  • Pizza was UK’s most searched takeaway option during Euro 2020: England vs Italy match
  • In the lead-up to kick-off, searches for ‘pizza delivery’ accounted for 86% of popular takeaway searches

Brits’ favourite food delivery for the Euro 2020 final was pizza, new research has revealed.

The analysis of Google Trends data by commercial kitchen specialists Maxima Kitchens shows that searches for ‘pizza delivery’ were more than five times higher than rival takeaway options.

Pizza accounted for 86% of search interest when compared against searches for burgers, Chinese, fish and chips and Indian food deliveries on the night England played Italy in the final.

The search term ‘pizza delivery’ jumped to more than triple its yearly average on Sunday 11th July, just 20 minutes before kick-off.

The UK’s second most popular takeaway food for the match was Chinese cuisine, but there was just one search for ‘Chinese delivery’ for every ten searches for ‘pizza delivery’.

Interest in pizza was also far higher than the quintessential British favourite: fish and chips, despite this being England’s biggest chance to win a major football trophy since 1966.

In terms of who brought the food, Euro 2020 sponsor and food delivery company Just Eat dominated popularity, nabbing more than triple the search interest of rivals Deliveroo and UberEats during the final.

A spokesperson for Maxima Kitchens, which conducted the research, said: “The Euro 2020 final was a huge moment for England, as a team and as a nation. The fact that pizza was our most desired takeaway that night speaks volumes about our passion for multicultural cuisines, and the power of food to break down all barriers”.

Maxima Kitchens produces high-quality kitchenware for bars, restaurants and catering services, allowing owners to run their businesses with ease.
