The Future of Healthtech is Inclusive: Ovia Health Announces Partnership with Family Equality an organization that advances legal and lived equality for LGBTQ+ families
Ovia community apps make healthcare tools and resources accessible to pregnant people and people on fertility journeys worldwide
Since the start of the pandemic, telehealth options have helped patients maintain contact with their healthcare providers. Telehealth makes healthcare more accessible and convenient by circumventing long lines at the doctor and reducing risk of possible exposure to COVID-19. As more providers have embraced this kind of technology, demand for services that provide inclusive care to anyone on a fertility journey, especially those who are Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+, has increased.
CONSUMER APPS BRING HEALTHTECH TO WOMEN EVERYWHERE
Ovia’s family of apps has helped to support 15 million family journeys around the world. Each app includes thousands of free expert articles that address prospective parents’ most-asked health questions.
“Millennials are looking to technology to fill gaps in care now more than ever,” said Paris Wallace CEO, Co-Founder of Ovia Health. “They are research-oriented, tech-savvy consumers, and 15 million of them have chosen Ovia Health’s digital solutions precisely because we provide clinically backed tools and expert content to guide important fertility, pregnancy, and parenting decisions. Ovia Health’s members are drawn to our user-centered design and log on an average of 30 sessions per month.”
PARTNERSHIP WITH FAMILY EQUALITY
Ovia has partnered with Family Equality since June 2021. Family Equality is an organization that advances legal and lived equality for LGBTQ+ families. This partnership will take many forms — including a content series and live conversations.
In a recent Instagram Live conversation with Family Equality’s Director of Family Formation, Jess Venable-Novak, examined the many paths to parenthood available to members of the LGBTQ+ community.
“Our Path to Parenthood”
Participants will join the Ovia community for a conversation on the different paths to parenthood like adoption, surrogacy, IVF, RIVF, and IUI. Content from Family Equality can be found in the Resources Center of Ovia’s Health’s website that will be updated on an ongoing basis. Topics include: “Raising a gender creative kid” and “Inclusive LGBTQ+ children’s books”
All Ovia’s content is reviewed and approved by Ovia’s team of health coaches which include RNs, midwives, lactation and sleep consultants, and mental health professionals. Each conversation will provide valuable resources to parents — new and experienced —- to help them in their journey.
“Ovia is committed to supporting all families on their family planning journey,” says Wallace. “One way that we’re doing this is by striving to create resources that help and support LGBTQ+ families.”
OVIA APP FAMILY PROVIDES FERTILITY, PREGNANCY, AND PARENTING TOOLS
The Ovia App Family helps users on their journey along the continuum of fertility, pregnancy and parenting. The apps include:
Ovia Fertility helps people with uteruses track their cycle, get period and ovulation predictions, and better understand their overall health. The Ovia proprietary algorithm is based on cutting-edge fertility research and offers accurate predictions for those with regular and irregular cycles.
Ovia Pregnancy provides a personalized approach to tracking baby development throughout pregnancy, and includes a “My baby names” feature that allows expectant parents to filter potential baby names by letter or gender, view common nicknames, and learn about the meaning and origin behind each name. Consumers can swipe through thousands of names to ‘like’ and ‘love’ their favorites.
Ovia Parenting provides newborn health tracking, Breastfeeding tracking, developmental milestones, and expert parenting articles. Community members can also share tracking info with their partner and other caregivers so everyone is up to date on what the little one’s been up to all day.
All Ovia community apps have:
Health insights & summaries
Sharing & calendar syncing
Apple health & Fitbit integrations
OVIA HELPS PEOPLE MAKE INFORMED CHOICES
Ovia continuously strives to improve their proprietary fertility algorithm and fill in gaps in care. Ovia’s solution is designed to be a companion tool, directing members to consult their doctors when Ovia identifies certain risk factors. Ovia Health members choose their primary care and pediatrician providers thoughtfully – Ovia is not a replacement for that in-person care. “Ovia is on a mission to make telehealth inclusive and available to everyone,” said Gina Nebesar, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Ovia Health. “The apps are free of charge because financial status should not be a barrier to obtaining accurate health information.” Nebesar also went on to point out that Ovia’s apps are customizable, personalized, and inclusive so that the Ovia community can access the content that matters most to them.
