ENGLISH CANNED WINE HITS THE SPOT

Nania’s Vineyard, the Bristol-based allotment vineyard has hit its initial crowdfunding target to create England’s first Canned Orange Wine.

In late June, founders James Bayliss-Smith and Shelley Nania launched their campaign to crowdfund their production of still wines – including England’s first canned orange wine. And, after just three weeks, they’ve hit their £9,000 goal.

“We’ve had an incredible response” says James. “People we know, and so many we don’t, who’ve found us thanks to social media, newspapers, radio and TV mentions… It’s been fantastic. We’re humbled by the support to help us make these amazing wines.”

Now with 10 days to go there are still some amazing perks to earn by joining the campaign on top of pre-ordering the first run of the new wines. Nania’s Vineyard are offering the exclusive chance of having your house painted with a wonderful bespoke, animal-themed mural by Bristol-artist Alex Lucas (who illustrates the eye-catching Nania’s Vineyard can designs). You can also purchase a Pinot Noir cutting and plant your very own vineyard!

THE STORY

James and Shelley caught the wine bug when they moved to Montpelier in Bristol and inherited a 50-year-old grape vine in their garden. From there, they planted 30 more vines in their allotment and christened it Nania’s Vineyard.

They created their first “urban vintage” in 2020 during lockdown AND had their bigger idea: the UK wine industry is booming, and there are thousands of vines being planted all across the country, so why not work with other growers, other wine makers and make Nania’s Vineyard a truly collaborative English wine brand?

And, in the spirit of collaboration, hitting their crowdfunding target means James, Shelley and their fellow grape growers can now produce the UK’s first canned orange wine, their first canned Pinot Noir AND an Elderflower White Wine Spritzer.
