Today, the COP26 Coalition launches an open call for global climate justice movements, groups, artists and campaigners to contribute to the ‘People’s Summit for Climate Justice’, which will bring together tens of thousands of people dedicated to fighting for climate justice around COP26 this November and beyond.

From the 7 – 10th November 2021, the COP26 Coalition will host the ‘People’s Summit for Climate Justice’, a global convergence space for movements, campaigns and civil society at COP26 across the city of Glasgow, providing an alternative to the business as usual of false solutions and inaction from rich nations and corporations.

Due to increasing inaccessibility, safety concerns and travel disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the People’s Summit will be delivered in a hybrid format – with some in-person events in Glasgow and a digital programme online.

Jana Ahlers, one of the People’s Summit Programme coordinators, said: “The COP26 President, the UK Government, is pushing forward with plans for one of the most exclusionary COP meetings ever. With exploding COVID rates, a global vaccine apartheid perpetuated by rich Northern countries for profit, and a racist Home Office visa immigration system, people from the Global South are effectively being shut out of deliberations. In response, the People’s Summit that the COP26 Coalition is hosting will be an inclusive, justice-orientated digital and in-person gathering which puts the often-unheard and marginalised voices of those most affected by the climate crisis front and centre to demand climate justice.”

The open call has today been published in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Turkish and can be found here.

The COP26 Coalition welcomes contributions for interactive workshops, panel discussions, strategy sessions, artistic and cultural contributions, constituency assemblies and other formats yet to be imagined. We encourage collaborative sessions and will prioritise submissions from frontline communities in the Global South, Indigenous communities, Black and people of colour, local struggles in Glasgow and working-class communities.

For any further questions regarding the People’s Summit, please email: peoples-summit@cop26coalition.org.

Deadline for submissions is the 30/8/21.
