Responding to today’s announcement on the transformation of the NHS in Wales, Plaid Cymru Spokesperson for Health, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS has said that the “unsustainability” of health and care services has been exposed by the pandemic, and that long term changes and more “sustainable” services within communities are needed.

Plaid Cymru Spokesperson for Health, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS said,

“The pandemic has exposed the unsustainability of our health and care services, and despite the heroic work of the staff, we now face even deeper problems than before, with serious backlogs of demand.

Whilst I welcome elements of today’s announcement, signposting patients to alternative avenues for seeking care, for example, to keep pressure of GPs, A&E and ambulances, I’ll be looking for evidence of changes that make a difference in the long term, building more sustainable services at the heart of our communities.”
