Beyoncé and Bill Gates are music’s most name-dropped celebrities

  • Pop superstar BeyoncĂ© is mentioned in song lyrics more than 2,700 times

  • Bill Gates is the second most name-dropped celebrity in song lyrics, beating out the likes of Barack Obama, Michael Jordan and the Dalai Lama

  • Jennifer Lopez is the second most name-dropped female celebrity, with Shakira in third

BeyoncĂ© is music’s most name-dropped celebrity, as new research reveals she tops the list for mentions in songs by other artists.

The study by Casinogrounds.com found that the American superstar features in song lyrics an impressive 2,758 times.

The research took YouGov’s list of the world’s 40 most admired men and women and used lyrics.com to check how many times they have been referenced in song lyrics.

BeyoncĂ© ranks as the world’s 11th most admired female but reigns supreme as the most name-dropped person out of the 40 celebrities on the list.

The 28-time Grammy winner features in 1,000 more lyrics than second place on the list.

Bill Gates is the most name-dropped male celebrity at 1,548 times. The co-founder of Microsoft makes approximately $4,630 a second and has given more than $36 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Basketball legend Michael Jordan comes in third overall with 1,452 name drops, while Donald Trump comes in fourth, with 1,439 – nearly six times as many mentions as fellow former President Barak Obama, who has 246.

Jennifer Lopez is the second most name-dropped woman, with 893, which means that for each song she has released, she has been name-dropped in a song 13 times.

Colombian star Shakira is the woman with the third-highest number of lyrical mentions, with 727, while Taylor Swift places fourth with 336.

In the male category, actor, director and martial artist Jackie Chan comes in fourth with 954 mentions, and in fifth place is entrepreneur and business magnate Elon Musk, who has 514 mentions.

44th President Barack Obama has been name-dropped 70 more times than his wife, Michelle Obama, outscoring her 246 mentions to 176.

The Obamas topped the YouGov poll as the most admired male and female celebrities, but the former President places seventh among men when it comes to lyrical name drops, while the former First Lady is fifth out of the women.

Queen Elizabeth II has been name-dropped in songs 116 times, with lyrics including “She waves at me like Queen Elizabeth”.

The battle for supremacy between football icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi has spread from the pitch to music, with Ronaldo narrowly edging lyrical mentions, receiving 130 compared to Messi’s 121.

The Dalai Lama is a far more popular lyrical name drop than Pope Francis, with the Buddhist spiritual leader racking up 471 mentions compared to 23 for the head of the Catholic Church.

Commenting on the study’s findings, a spokesperson for CasinoGrounds said: “Beyonce has countless awards and millions of fans, and Bill Gates has billions of dollars, but they can each add another accolade to the list as the most name-dropped of the world’s most admired men and women.”
