Success for Neath Port Talbot A-level students

Pupils in Neath Port Talbot schools are celebrating their successes at A-level despite unprecedented challenges and disruption due to the Covid-19 crisis. Pupils have been rewarded with outstanding outcomes which fully reflect their commitment to learning over their time in school.
 
Overall, the standards achieved by the year 12 and 13 pupils are excellent and are a clear reward for pupils’ hard work throughout their school careers.

Many of our students have shown remarkable resilience, dedication and drive to achieve their grades.

To all the year 13 leavers, we wish them luck on the next step of their journey.

At Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera- Bro Dur and St Joseph’s Catholic School and Sixth Form Centre, the AS and A Level grades have been awarded by teachers, moderated by senior school leaders, and are based on extremely robust assessments at key stage 5 over an extended period. The staff in these schools have worked tirelessly to determine grades and gather the evidence required for accurate assessment. We are confident that this whole process reflects both the depth and breadth of work pupils have undertaken to achieve these results.

Councillor Peter Rees, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture added: “Congratulations to all pupils on their success and also I would like to pay tribute to all those who have supported them in achieving their results under very difficult circumstances. These two schools in Neath Port Talbot have again secured excellent results in the face of many challenges. I have complete confidence in our teaching workforce and that pupils can take their key stage 5 qualifications forward with them on their next step, whether into University or the workplace.”

Council Leader, Cllr Ted Latham, said: “We can all agree that these are unprecedented times, I have no doubt that the grades awarded fully reflect the young people’s efforts and resilience. The pupils have secured the results that they deserve. Their families, schools and communities must also take great pride in their achievements. I would also like to congratulate those students who studied at Neath Port Talbot College who secured excellent results. I am very proud of our young people in Neath Port Talbot and would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported them to achieve their results.”
